Macon Dog Park
Macon Dog Park is probably the most straightforward choice when what you really want is a place for your dog to get off the leash and burn some energy.
Located at 831 Adams Street near Mercer University, the park is a free public off-leash space maintained by Macon-Bibb County. It sits about a block north of Tattnall Square Park at the corner of Chestnut and Adams Streets.
The park has two fenced areas, including separate spaces for larger and smaller dogs. It also has a more natural feel than a simple fenced patch of grass, with a stream, bridges, play structures, and benches for the humans who are trying to keep up.
If you’re looking for a free Macon dog park where your dog can run, play, and socialize off leash, this is the place I’d start.

Barks N Brews
Barks N Brews is a completely different dog-park experience. It’s part off-leash dog park and part social spot for the people who came with them.
Located at 695 Riverside Drive, Barks N Brews has a private fenced area where dogs can run and socialize off leash while their owners hang out and grab a beverage from the Airstream bar. The business also hosts dog-focused events throughout the year.
Unlike Macon Dog Park, this isn’t a free public park. Barks N Brews offers paid access and membership options, and there are requirements you’ll want to know before bringing your dog.
Dogs must be at least four months old and current on required vaccinations. Dogs one year and older must be spayed or neutered. You’ll need to provide proof of vaccination before your dog enters the park, so this is one stop that takes a little more planning than grabbing the leash and heading out the door.
Current posted hours are Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from noon to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 8:00 p.m. Hours, admission, and park policies can change, so check the Barks N Brews website before visiting.

Want a Walk Instead? Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails in Macon
Not every dog needs an off-leash free-for-all. Sometimes you just want somewhere pretty to walk together, get some exercise, and let your dog investigate every tree along the way.
Macon has several dog-friendly parks and trails that are better suited to that kind of outing.
Amerson River Park
Amerson River Park is one of my favorite options when you want more of an actual outing with your dog rather than standing inside a fenced dog park.
The park sits along the Ocmulgee River and has open green spaces, wooded areas, river views, and miles of trails. It’s a good choice for a longer walk, especially if both you and your dog need to get out of the house for a while.
Because Georgia heat can turn a nice walk into a very hot one pretty quickly, morning and evening visits can be much more comfortable during the warmer months.

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail
If your dog has more energy than a quick loop around the neighborhood can handle, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail gives you plenty of room to stretch out a walk.
The multi-surface trail extends for more than 12 miles along the Ocmulgee River and connects several Macon parks and destinations. You don’t have to tackle the entire trail, of course. Pick a section that works for you and your dog and make the walk as short or long as you want.
It’s especially nice if you’d rather have river views and shaded stretches than an open dog-park setting.
Tattnall Square Park
Tattnall Square Park is right near Macon Dog Park, which makes the two easy to pair if your dog could use both some off-leash play and a walk.
The park spans close to 16 acres and includes paved walking paths, shaded picnic areas, a playground, pickleball courts, and the fountain in the center. It’s a good option for a casual leashed walk near Mercer University.

If you’re going to Barks N Brews, make sure you’ve handled the vaccination requirements before you arrive. And during the warmer part of the year, pay attention to the temperature and how your dog is handling the heat. Middle Georgia afternoons can get hot fast.
