Looking for the best fall activities in Middle Georgia? Whether you’re planning a trip to a pumpkin patch, searching for family-friendly festivals, or simply looking for fun ways to enjoy cooler weather around Warner Robins, Perry, Macon, and beyond, this guide brings together some of my favorite places to experience fall. I’ll update it every year so you always have one place to find the latest seasonal events, family traditions, and local favorites.

Fall always seems to arrive faster than I expect.

One week it’s still too hot to think about pumpkins, and the next I’m pulling out lightweight sweaters, ordering Halloween costumes, and realizing our weekends are already filling up.

If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t want to spend hours searching Facebook events or wondering if a pumpkin patch is actually worth the drive. You just want a few fun places where your family can slow down, enjoy the season, and make some memories together before the holidays sneak up on us.

As a family photographer here in Middle Georgia, one of the questions I hear every fall is, “Where should we take the kids this weekend?”

After photographing families throughout Warner Robins, Perry, Macon, and the surrounding communities for years, I’ve discovered a handful of places I recommend over and over again. Some have become annual traditions for my own family. Others are places my clients tell me about after spending a Saturday there.

This isn’t meant to be a list of every single fall event happening in Georgia.

Instead, think of it as recommendations from one local mom to another.

Whether you’re hoping to spend the afternoon at a pumpkin patch, enjoy a local festival, take a scenic walk, or plan a weekend road trip, I hope this guide helps you discover a few new favorites.

Pumpkin Patches & Farm Adventures

If someone asked me where to start, this would be it.

There’s just something about wandering through a pumpkin patch with little kids that feels like fall. Maybe it’s watching them search for the “perfect” pumpkin, climbing on hay bales, or getting excited about a tractor ride they’ve been talking about all week.

Every farm is a little different, though. Some are perfect for younger kids who like to take things slowly. Others are better if you’re looking for a full afternoon with lots of activities.

Here are the ones I recommend most often:

Herrington Farms | Vienna, Georgia

If your family enjoys quieter outings, Herrington Farms is one of my favorite recommendations.

Located just outside Vienna, Herrington Farms feels like the kind of place where you can simply slow down. You’ll usually find pumpkins, mums, fresh produce, seasonal decorations, and plenty of open space for little ones to explore without feeling overwhelmed.

One of the reasons I like recommending Herrington Farms to families with younger children is because it doesn’t try to pack every possible attraction into one place. Instead, it gives you room to enjoy the afternoon together. You can wander through the pumpkins, let your kids investigate everything they see, and spend time outside without feeling rushed.

Sometimes those slower afternoons become the ones our kids remember most.

Melissa’s Tip: If your children get overwhelmed by large crowds or lots of noise, Herrington Farms is a wonderful place to start your fall adventures.

Lane Southern Orchards | Fort Valley, Georgia

If you’re looking for a place where you can easily spend half the day, Lane Southern Orchards is hard to beat.

Their annual Corn Maze Days have become a tradition for many Middle Georgia families, and it’s easy to understand why. Between the six-acre corn maze, hayrides, playground, pumpkin patch, farm market, and seasonal treats, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

One thing I always tell families is not to rush through the market.

Yes, the corn maze is fun.

Yes, the hayrides are worth doing.

But the market has become part of the tradition too. Fresh baked pies, apple cider slushies, homemade ice cream, boiled peanuts, local jams, and seasonal produce make it worth taking your time.

If your family likes making a full afternoon out of your fall outings, this is probably where I’d send you first.

Melissa’s Tip: If your schedule allows, visit during the week. If you’re planning a Saturday trip, arriving shortly after opening usually means shorter lines and a little more room to explore.

Hamlin Hills Farm | Forsyth, Georgia

If your family pictures a classic pumpkin patch with a corn maze and room for kids to run, Hamlin Hills Farm is another wonderful option.

Located in Forsyth, it’s close enough for an easy day trip from Warner Robins or Macon while still feeling like you’ve escaped the everyday routine for a few hours.

There’s something refreshing about keeping things simple.

No packed itinerary.

No rushing from one activity to another.

Just comfortable weather, open space, and kids enjoying being kids.

Sometimes that’s exactly what everyone needs.

Melissa’s Tip: Before making the drive, check their website or Facebook page for seasonal hours and weather updates.

Skipper Family Farms | Macon, Georgia

One of the things I love most about Skipper Family Farms is that every visit feels a little different.

Throughout the fall they host seasonal markets, pumpkin events, flower fields, and community gatherings that bring together local vendors, food, music, and family-friendly activities.

It’s less about checking attractions off a list and more about spending time together while supporting a local farm.

I also appreciate that it’s close enough to Macon to make an easy afternoon outing without needing to dedicate your entire day to the drive.

If you enjoy shopping local and discovering small businesses while your kids play, you’ll probably love Skipper Family Farms.

Melissa’s Tip: Check their event calendar before you head out. Different weekends often feature different vendors and seasonal activities.

Dickey Farms | Musella, Georgia

Although Dickey Farms is famous for peaches, don’t overlook it once fall arrives.

Their annual fall festival brings together pumpkins, hayrides, local vendors, food trucks, live music, and plenty of seasonal fun for families.

Even if you miss festival weekend, their market alone makes the trip worthwhile.

Fresh baked goods, locally made products, seasonal treats, and a little piece of Georgia history all come together in one stop.

It’s the kind of place where you’ll probably leave with more than you planned to buy, and honestly, that’s part of the fun.

Melissa’s Tip: Leave extra time to wander through the market before heading home.

Looking for More Local Fall Events?

One of the best things about living in Middle Georgia is that there always seems to be something happening during the fall.

Instead of trying to list every event here, I recommend checking a few local calendars before planning your weekend. They’re updated throughout the season and often include festivals, farmers markets, food truck nights, concerts, trunk-or-treats, and other family-friendly events.

Some of my favorite resources include:

  • Visit Macon for festivals, concerts, and family events throughout Bibb County.
  • Macon365 for local events, performances, and seasonal celebrations.
  • Downtown Perry for community events, markets, and holiday activities.
  • Visit Warner Robins for local festivals and family happenings.
  • Explore Georgia if you’re planning a road trip outside Middle Georgia.

You’ll usually discover something new every time you look.

Looking for Simple Fall Activities in Middle Georgia?

Not every memorable fall day has to include a pumpkin patch.

Some of my favorite weekends have been the simplest ones. A walk through the park, lunch at a local restaurant, browsing a farmers market, or exploring a town we’ve driven through dozens of times but never really stopped to enjoy.

If you’re looking for ideas that don’t require buying tickets or spending the entire day away from home, these are some of my favorite places to recommend.

Amerson River Park | Macon, Georgia

Amerson River Park is one of those places that works for almost every season, but I especially love it in the fall.

The cooler weather makes the walking trails much more enjoyable, and the playground, bridges, river overlooks, and open green spaces give kids plenty of room to burn off energy.

Bring a picnic, ride scooters, or simply enjoy an afternoon outside together.

Sometimes that’s all you need.

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park | Macon, Georgia

If you’re looking for something that’s both beautiful and educational, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is one of the most unique places to visit in Middle Georgia.

The trails are peaceful, the history is fascinating, and it’s one of those places where kids can explore without feeling like they’re stuck in a museum.

Fall is one of my favorite times to visit because the weather makes walking the trails comfortable, and the scenery is beautiful without feeling crowded.

Spend an Afternoon in Downtown Perry

Downtown Perry is one of those places that’s easy to overlook until you actually spend a few hours there.

Grab a coffee, browse the locally owned shops, stop for lunch, and let your kids enjoy the slower pace that makes small-town Georgia so charming.

Throughout the fall you’ll often find seasonal decorations, community events, and local markets that make it an even better place to visit.

Sometimes you don’t need a packed itinerary.

You just need an afternoon together.

Explore Downtown Macon

If you haven’t wandered around downtown Macon recently, fall is a great excuse.

Between local coffee shops, restaurants, murals, boutiques, museums, and seasonal events, there’s plenty to do without rushing from place to place.

Check the local events calendar before your visit because there’s usually something happening during the fall months.

Visit a Local Farmers Market

One of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday morning is visiting a farmers market.

Fresh produce, homemade baked goods, flowers, local honey, handmade soaps, and seasonal treats make every visit feel a little different.

It’s also a wonderful way to support local businesses while showing your kids where some of their food comes from.

Sometimes we leave with vegetables.

Sometimes we leave with cookies.

Honestly, it’s usually both.

Worth the Drive

Sometimes the best fall memories happen a little farther from home.

If your family is up for a road trip, the North Georgia mountains in October are absolutely worth the drive. These are two of my favorite reasons to head north.

Mercier Orchards | Blue Ridge, Georgia

If you’re planning a fall trip to the North Georgia mountains, Mercier Orchards is one stop you won’t want to miss.

Known for its apple picking, bakery, market, and fresh cider, Mercier has become a tradition for families all across Georgia. Even if you aren’t picking apples, browsing the market and grabbing a warm fried pie while enjoying the mountain scenery makes the trip worthwhile.

Blue Ridge itself is also a wonderful place to spend the day. After visiting the orchard, you can explore downtown, ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, or simply enjoy the slower pace that makes mountain weekends so relaxing.

Melissa’s Tip: If possible, visit during the week. Weekends in October are beautiful, but they’re also the busiest time of year.

Big Red Apple Festival | Cornelia, Georgia

If your family wants to kick off fall a little early, the Big Red Apple Festival in downtown Cornelia is a fun way to do it.

Held the third Saturday in September (September 19 in 2026), it’s Cornelia’s oldest festival, and the whole town comes out for it. You’ll find hayrides, a car show, a kids zone, arts and craft vendors, food vendors, live entertainment, and historic tours, all centered around the town’s famous Big Red Apple monument.

It’s free to attend, easy to walk with little ones, and small-town charming in the best way.

If you’re already planning to spend a weekend in the mountains, this festival makes a great addition to your itinerary.

Melissa’s Tip: Pair your visit with Jaemor Farms or an afternoon of apple picking nearby to make the most of your trip.

Before You Head Out

A little planning can make your day much more enjoyable, especially during the busiest weekends of fall.

Before loading everyone into the car, I always recommend:

  • Check each attraction’s website or Facebook page before you leave. Hours, admission, and activities can change depending on the weather or the time of year.
  • Buy tickets ahead of time if they’re available. Some attractions sell out on busy weekends.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Most farms have gravel paths, uneven ground, or plenty of walking.
  • Bring water and a few snacks, especially if you have younger kids.
  • Pack a change of clothes for toddlers. Pumpkin patches and corn mazes have a way of leaving little ones a little dirtier than expected.
  • Give yourselves plenty of time. The best family days usually happen when no one feels rushed.

Planning Fall Family Photos?

If your family loves everything about fall, you’re not alone.

It’s my busiest season for a reason.

The weather is finally comfortable, everyone is happy to be outside again, and the colors create such a beautiful backdrop for family photos.

But what I love most isn’t the scenery. It’s seeing families slow down for an hour. No errands. No rushing to the next activity. Just time together.

If fall has you thinking about updating your family photos, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels easy, natural, and true to your family. I work with families throughout Warner Robins, Perry, Macon and Middle Georgia, and we’ll choose a location that fits this season of like while taking things at your kids’ pace.

Ready when you are.
