When I first put this list together, there were only a handful of local options to share. That has definitely changed.
Today, you can find everything from beginner riding lessons and horse camps to hands-on farm visits and actual trail rides without driving halfway across Georgia. The biggest thing is knowing what kind of experience you’re looking for because not every riding stable offers the same thing.
Here are some of the local options around Macon, Lizella, Byron, Fort Valley, and Forsyth.
Horseback Riding in Macon GA
Blanche Farms Equestrian Center
Blanche Farms is one of the more flexible places to start if your child has been asking about horses but you’re not quite sure whether weekly lessons are going to become the next big thing in your house.
Located on Estes Road in Macon, Blanche Farms offers year-round English and Western riding lessons for ages 5 and older. Their program works with beginners as well as more experienced riders, with private, semi-private, and group lesson options.
There’s also more happening here than regular riding lessons. Blanche Farms offers farm experiences and birthday parties, making it a good option for kids who want to spend some time around horses and other farm animals without necessarily jumping straight into an ongoing lesson schedule.

They also offer farm visits and arena rides, which is helpful if your child is interested in horses but you’re not ready to commit to regular lessons yet. During farm visits, families can spend time with horses and some of the other animals around the farm.
If you live around north Macon, Bolingbroke, or Forsyth, this is definitely one to check out.

Where Can You Go Trail Riding Near Macon GA?
This is where things can get a little confusing when you start Googling horseback riding near Macon.
A farm having horses, riding lessons, or even trails on the property does not automatically mean you can book a trail ride there.
If your idea of horseback riding is getting on a horse and heading out on a trail for an afternoon, Ram Branch Farms in Fort Valley is one of the clearest local options. They offer guided trail rides by appointment and advertise them as an option even for riders without previous experience.
For a first experience that doesn’t necessarily need to be a trail ride, Blanche Farms in Macon and Brewster Farms in Forsyth also offer ways to spend time around horses without immediately signing up for an ongoing lesson program.
For the other barns on this list, I’d assume lessons unless they specifically tell you otherwise.
Riding Lessons vs. a One-Time Horseback Riding Experience
Before you start calling around, decide what you actually want your child to experience.
If they’ve been talking about horses for months and want to learn how to ride, a riding lesson is probably the better place to start. A good lesson teaches much more than how to sit in the saddle. Kids can learn how to approach a horse, groom, tack up, steer, communicate with the horse, and safely handle themselves around the barn.
If this is more of a “my kid wants to ride a horse at least once” situation, look for a farm visit, arena ride, or guided trail ride instead.
And if that one ride turns into horse posters covering the bedroom walls and a sudden request for a pony for Christmas, well…you were warned.
What Should Kids Wear Horseback Riding?
Always ask the individual stable before your first visit because requirements vary.
In general, expect your child to need long pants and closed-toe shoes. Many riding programs prefer or require boots with a heel. Helmets may be provided by the stable, but confirm that when you schedule.
For outdoor farm visits or camps, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle are also smart additions, especially during a Middle Georgia summer.
And I probably wouldn’t send them in the brand-new shoes.

Ask about minimum ages, whether beginners are welcome, what riders should wear, whether helmets are provided, and whether you’re booking a private lesson, group lesson, arena ride, farm experience, or actual trail ride.
